Oprah Winfrey Show In the Oprah Winfrey show last week they discussed the connection between obesity surgery and alcohol consumption. It seems that people who have had obesity surgery get intoxicated at a much faster rate then those who have not had the surgery. Researchers reported that in a small study that after just one glass of wine the intoxicated rate was dramatic in those who have had the surgery. This study was inspired by that episode on The Oprah Winfrey Show. "A lot of people think they can have one glass of wine and be OK," said Dr. John Morton, assistant professor of surgery at Stanford University Medical Center, who is the study' s lead author. "The concern here is, they really can't." In the Oprah Winfrey show inspired study, the researchers gave 36 men and women, 19 who have had obesity surgery and 17 who did not - 5 ounces of red wine each to drink in 15 minutes. Using breath analysis, the alcohol levels were measured every five minutes until it returned to zero. It turns out that the Oprah Winfrey show was onto something. More than 70 percent of the surgery patients hit a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent, which qualifies as legally intoxicated in most states. In this Oprah Winfrey show inspired study, two of the participant's levels reached above 0.15. But in contrast, almost all of the control group had levels below 0.05 percent, legal in every state. It seems that there is always good and solid information given on the Oprah Winfrey show. I am sure that there will be follow-up on this study on both the Oprah Winfrey show and in the Oprah magazine. Maybe even a future best seller featured on the Oprah book club. Oprah the secret.
