The Oprah Winfrey Show Exposed Puppy Mills |

Anyone who watched the Oprah Winfrey Show last week about the puppy mills was probably touched to the core about the inhumane treatment of the female dogs who are bred until they are no longer capable of producing healthy litters. This show aired heartbreaking conditions for animals who are used to make their owners nothing but money, and I hope that all watchers had the same reaction that I did to these puppy mill operators: contempt.
The Oprah Winfrey show is a high profile place to raise, so hopefully the backlash of the show's content will spur a grass roots effort among people to put a stop to mill owners who mistreat their animals by caging them 24/7, and allowing them to live in sheer filth. Breeders who allow their animals exercise, fresh air, and clean living conditions are more the exception than the rule, thank goodness, but those who practice overcrowding, neglect, and bad sanitation should be stopped. The Oprah Winfrey show concluded that people should stop buying puppies from pet shops who buy from these breeders, and get their pets from the pound to discourage these abhorrent practices. |
