The Oprah Book Club Has Good Taste in Books |

The Ophra Winfrey Show has recently released its new book club selection, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. This book is about a mute who develops a serious relationship with a dog, and it has received great reviews. The Oprah book club suggestions are usually for books that are pretty good, and having just finished an old Oprah book club selection, I can say that she has good taste in books, which will probably become noted as literature in years to come.
Many of the Oprah book club selections are great reads. She ran into trouble with A Million Little Pieces after it was revealed that this autobiography contained some ficticious situations. Most of us have forgiven both the writer and Oprah for what the writer included, thinking he was using literary license. It turns out that most people think of autobiographical writing as not having the option to use license, so it was a lesson all aspiring writers learned about writing memoirs. Keep them literal, keep them true, and if Oprah selects your book and you have skeletons in the attic, it's best to tell her up front. |
