Chicago is the birthplace of many great things including the NBA Bulls, deep dish pizza, Oprah Winfrey Show and all sorts of great musicians. That being said it made a lot of sense Chicago entered the bidding for the 2016 Olympics. I had really high hopes they could pull this one off but after getting up this morning and turning on the news, I learned Chicago was the first city knocked off the list and the winner ended up being Rio de Janeiro. In the clip below you will get to see Oprah off the Oprah Winfrey Show promoting Chicago as the best city in the world.

Apparently the Olympic Committee didn’t buy into what Oprah or Michelle Obama for that matter had to say. I have never been to Chicago but from what I’ve heard it is supposed to be spectacular. Then again many of the people who told me this did grow up there. I believe this city is a great place but there must have been something about it that had the Olympic Committee writing it off so quick.

As a self-proclaimed insomniac and late-night infomercial watcher, I decided to ask my doctor about healthier, natural routines I could begin to help myself fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. He asked me if I wouldn't mind reading at night? I had never even thought to try reading, even though I used to have a fervent love for reading. I used to read any and everything I could get my hands on. These days, I am much busier and am a bit more choosy with the books I commit to reading.

I recently took up reading one of the Deep South stories from the Oprah Book Club. It is called Mother of Pearl, by Melinda Haynes. You want to talk about not being able to put a book down? This amazing story of the lives of Southerners in a time gone by will leave you hanging on the author's every word. Along with the rest of the amazing books approved and listed in the Oprah Book Club, this work kept me reading until my eyelids began to droop and I had to put it down in order to sleep.

I am not a regular viewer of the Oprah Winfrey Show, nor an avid reader of the Oprah Magazine, but I am fast becoming a huge fan of the books that make the Oprah Book Club list! Just pick one, any one, and try a few paragraphs from any page. If it doesn't leave you wanting to read more, then pick another book and do not be surprised when you get hooked!

For years, I have been watching the Oprah Winfrey Show. Usually, I failed to get home from work in time to see it; however, I filmed it and watched it later that evening. Ms. Winfrey has always had exciting guests, discussed popular topics as well as dealing with the hard knocks of life. The Oprah Magazine is an excellent magazine, which I sincerely believe is for both men and women.

I have watched Ms Winfrey laugh, cry and go through every emotional instinct there is. She is not afraid to face the hard questions, and she gives her best to return thorough, thoughtful, and insightful answers. Her love for humanity spreads endlessly throughout the world.

When you take time to read an Oprah Winfrey Biography, you will discover she had a truly difficult childhood. She suffered abuse by aunts and uncles, and she rose above the mental damage those horrors caused. She faces her problems, she does not hide them, she is a "'woman's woman", she freely shares of herself, and I would love to meet her!

Oprah Book Club

I am one of those people who is an avid reader and has come to love the Oprah book club. Since its start a few years ago, I have read each and every book Oprah has recommended in the Oprah book club.

The Oprah book club has opened up a wealth of literary opportunities for me. I’ve learned about myself in a few titles the club has recommended as well as learned a few things about others. My relationship with my family and other loved ones has changed due to the inspiring dynamic of many of the books on the Oprah book club list.

Throughout my time with the Oprah book club, I’ve met characters through the books that were uplifting and enlightening. Although most of the characters are fictional in the books I’ve read, some are actual people. Some of the memoirs and autobiographies which were recommended are absolutely breathtaking stories. Each book was definitely a page-turner, I could not bring myself to put the book down; making for many a long night reading but worth every minute.

I like the Oprah Winfrey show for it's versatility and the amount of subject matter that is presented. She is, in my opinion, a good interviewer with a way of getting what information she wants out of her guests. I have learned a lot about my body, diseases, proper eating, mental and financial health, celebrities and much, much more by watching the show faithfully.

I have watched the show for many years and have seen Oprah's hairstyles change, her weight fluctuate and her opinions flow. Yet, the girl seems to only improve in every way with time. I believe an Oprah Winfrey Biography would show that she has proven herself and will leave an indelible mark for all the good things she has done.

I subscribe to the Oprah Magazine. It is a treat every month when I receive the publication in my mailbox. I take my time and relish looking through the articles. I feel informed and enlightened by reading the information found within the magazine.

I can truly say that my life has been touched by Oprah the Secret. I encourage anyone and everyone to take notice of this book. It is an easy and up lifting read. I believe it changed my life!

The Oprah Book Club Chose a Dud

Most of the time I agree with the selections made by the Oprah Book Club, but I do have to take issue with one book, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. All the time I was reading it, I was wondering two things: 1) how did the book get published, and 2) why did the Oprah Book Club choose it? The book was well written and the mechanics in it were great, but it was one of the most useless stories I think ever needed to be told. I don't think I was the only person who felt that way. My sister gave it to me, and she said that she didn't really enjoy it but that I might. I enjoy a lot of books because I am a compulsive reader. After the first three chapters, I was wondering why did the book get written in the first place.

Once I got into the middle, I was still wondering why the Oprah Book Club chose it, but I stuck it out to the end. Then I gave to my other sister and she had the same reaction as I did. Her book club in New Mexico was also reading it, and the members of it weren't too enthused about it, either. Most of the time I really enjoy the Oprah Book Club selections, but this one was a dud.

As we all know by now star Rihanna's alleged beating by singer boyfriend Chris Brown has hit the national news. Seems Tyra Banks and Oprah devoted an entire episode of the Oprah Winfry Show show to dating abuse.

It turns out it is subject that has personal issues for Tyra. I watched the show and she talks about her experience dating a man who emotionally abused her. She said an ex boyfriend tried to break her down because he wanted control. One day, she woke up and decided to end the relationship. A very smart move on her part.

The Oprah Winfrey Show has never turned away from addressing delicate issues. If you have read the Oprah Winfrey biography you know she was sexually abused as a child herself.

Abuse on any level, mental, emotional, physical or sexual can not be tolerated. If the Oprah Winfrey show or any other national talk show devotes time to this ever increasing problem I commend them for it. The majority of our social ills can be directly linked back to abuse of some kind in our childhood. It really is time to wake up folks.

Why watch the Oprah Winfrey show? Because it is good!

As a guy, I could hardly ever justify being an Oprah Winfrey show fan, but one day while I was getting ready for work and I had left the television on, it happened to catch the Oprah Winfrey show. The episode I saw was really intriguing, and enough to get me to be interested in watching again whenever I get cable TV again.

You see I always stereotyped the show as being this superficial woman's show talking about nothing interesting, kind of like the View. But it's more than that. Oprah is actually a great journalist and reports some interesting things. In the episode I saw, for example, she reported on a family that was basically volunteering to be implanted with a tracking chip for "security against terrorists". This controversial and interesting topic struck me because it had nothing to do with the stereotypes I had placed on the show, and I went on to see many other shows that also had nothing to do with that stuff.

So, I recommend it. It is a good show and overall you will learn something.

The Oprah Winfrey Show is one of my favorite shows. The reason I feel drawn to the Oprah Winfrey Show is because I can relate to so many of the issues that Oprah dares to talk openly and honestly about!

The Oprah Winfrey Show has given me a better understanding of who I am and that it's alright to be who I am no matter what. She honestly just wants everyone to be the best they can be! Most of the Oprah Winfrey Show topics deal with bettering ourselves.

I was watching the Oprah Winfrey Show the other day when the topic was Oprah sharing her heart with us about her never ending fight on weight loss. I wish that the media would just leave Oprah alone in regards to her weight! Oprah is a beautiful human being no matter what she weighs. People need to just let her be herself; quit expecting her to fit in some kind of model mold!

The Oprah Winfrey Show has done so much good for so many people. I have heard topics on the Oprah Winfrey Show that I have never heard talked about on any other talk show. She truly does care for other people.
